And here’s some of my favorite episodes (made by me)

Bold Dominion - a state news explainer for a changing Virginia

Bold Dominion is an interview/chat style show. Sometimes we interview one or two guests and sometimes we do research and record a chat style show. We start every episode with a core question and we choose the format that allows us to best answer the question.

How I contributed to these episodes:

  • Pitched topics and researched stories and guests

  • Scheduled recording sessions

  • Wrote and conducted interviews with expert guests

  • Hosted the show, wrote and recorded narration

  • Edited and mixed the episodes, added music and clips

Black Fiddlers of Monticello - a weeklong series for broadcast on WTJU 91.1 FM

From 2020-2021 I produced five 2-minute classical interview clips per week for air. Each week I conducted an interview with a musician in Charlottesville and turned it into a five part series that aired at 8am over the course of the week.

Here’s how I contributed to this series:

  • Researched guests and scheduled interviews

  • Recorded an hour-long outdoor tour in the field

  • Wrote and conducted interviews

  • Sourced music and other archival audio

  • Recorded, hosted, edited and mixed clips

Black Fiddlers of Monticello won Best Human Interest Series at 2021 Virginia Association of Broadcasters Awards!

^^this was our submission, with all 5 clips stacked together in one audio file.

Aboriginal Art in America - discussing medium, style and the way Aboriginal artists translate the issues of the day from the other side of the world

The Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection is the only museum outside of Australia dedicated to the exhibition and study of Indigenous Australian art, and it’s located in Charlottesville, VA! Each short episode tells a story about a work or artist in the collection.

How I contributed to these episodes:

  • Recorded on-site at the Kluge-Ruhe

  • Wrote interviews, intros and outros

  • Edited and mixed the episodes

  • For this Boomalli series, I edited over 2 hours of audio into 6 3-6 minute podcasts and 6 2-minute segments for broadcast.

*always fun to take our interns to Kluge-Ruhe for some field recording training!

Daily News on WTJU 91.1 FM - 2-minute on-air news hits

Each week, I produce three 2-minute local news stories for air. Here’s how I contribute:

  • Pitch topics and research stories

  • Prepare questions

  • Prepare short briefs for unscripted recording

  • Record, host, and edit

Teachers in the Movement - the voices & stories of teachers throughout the South from the Civil Rights Movement

Teachers in the Movement is a narrative style podcast that draws on an extensive archive of oral histories from African American teachers who taught in the South during the Civil Rights Movement. Each episode features one oral history, put into context by experts at UVA’s School of Education & Human Development.

How I contributed to these episodes:

  • Combed through oral history recordings to find the best moments and broader contexts

  • Conducted historical research to contextualize events mentioned in the oral histories

  • Wrote interviews and scheduled recording sessions

  • Found audio from local tv and radio news archives

  • Edited and mixed the episodes, added music and clips
